I'm not a hunter, but I shoot wild animals.
In East Africa, a lone zebra nibbles on grass in the savanna sunset. Crouching quietly, I raise the viewfinder to my eye. My fingers move as if it is second nature, adjusting dials with soft clicks.
I wait for the precise moment before I press with my pointer. Snap. The animal doesn't notice me.
With the dimming light, I turn a dial to the left with my right ring finger, opening wider the eye within the glass barrel. Snap, snap. The sound of my shutter is the only audible noise above the hums of giant crickets in the distance. I pull the viewfinder away from my face and peer at the back screen, showing an image of oranges and yellows with a black and white creature ducking behind tall grass in the first third of the frame. Success.
A photo is time frozen. No two photos will ever be exactly the same, like snowflakes. My love for nature fills me with the urgency to show the whole world all of the beauty the planet offers us before nature is damaged beyond repair. Photography is my way of displaying to the world what we may someday lose if we aren't careful.
Thank you & enjoy,
